After the death of her husband of 30 years, life became increasingly difficult for Zina. Without her husband’s income to keep her afloat, bills began to pile up and Zina faced homelessness. Out of desperation, Zina made some poor choices, and her difficult time became much worse when she was convicted and now had a criminal record. Zina quickly became discouraged when employer after employer dismissively assured her, “we will be in touch,” only to shut the door.
When Zina came to Jubilee Jobs, she was without hope for her future and was afraid to re-enter the workforce because of the repeated rejection. However, classes on interviewing, networking and communication tactics began to infuse Zina with fresh hope. With her new skills and rediscovered sense of self-worth, Zina obtained a position at Galls and was quickly promoted to a supervisory role. Now positioned to help others, Zina was able to assist Jubilee Jobs with securing over ten other clients permanent employment at Galls. Zina now has a fulfilling position with the Public Defenders Office, where she is doing meaningful work to help her community. “I recommend Jubilee Jobs daily to the clients I serve,” says Zina, “Jubilee Jobs helped me when I felt totally alone. They changed my life!”
