Larry had long been entangled in the judicial system. Since 2007, his life had been marked by a series of poor decisions and struggles with alcoholism, resulting in numerous incarcerations. It was during his 16th arrest that Larry made a life-changing choice—he enrolled in Jubilee Jobs’ Second Chance Academy at the Fayette County Detention Center. After successfully completing the course, Larry reentered society determined to turn his life around.

Despite facing significant barriers in finding employment, Larry persisted and eventually secured a position as a maintenance director. He hasn’t missed a day of work or been late since starting the job—a testament to his dedication and growth.

To support family reunification and foster mentorship, Jubilee Jobs organized a men’s canoe trip along Elkhorn Creek for Second Chance Academy graduates. This unforgettable outing, made possible by funding from the Commonwealth Center for Fathers and Families, brought together 32 men, including Larry and his son. For the first time, Larry and his 17-year-old son shared a bonding experience outside the confines of home. Larry described the experience as “perfect timing” for their relationship, offering the connection they both needed.

The impact of The Second Chance Academy extends beyond Larry himself. The program has not only helped him break free from cycles of criminality and recidivism but is also changing the course of his family’s future, disrupting the generational cycle that once threatened to persist.

This story highlights how Jubilee Jobs is transforming lives, not just for individuals, but for entire families, helping them create lasting, positive change.
